Hello everyone! It’s time for another round of Throwback Thursday! (You can view the first Throwback post here.) Today, we will be exploring a beautiful wedding that took place on the shores of Lake Michigan, at Little Sable Point Lighthouse, back in August of 2016. This Little Sable Point Lighthouse Wedding couple never would have reached out to us, had Melissa not seen some of our work at this exact spot before! Take an adventure back through time with us below…
How We Met
So, to start, I wanted to say that Melissa found us at a local Bridal Show (we do those occasionally still, but not as much as we did back then!). And she knew it was us, because she had seen some of our images from Google, about a Bridal Session that had taken place at Little Sable Point Lighthouse previously with a different couple. You see, we had a small canvas in our setup, from this exact Lighthouse and session, and she screamed in excitement! (Which caused everyone’s heads to turn!)
She approached us, and was like, “Yes! You guys are here! I saw your work on Google, and my wedding is at this Lighthouse!” She was pointing the canvas. We were beyond excited and started chatting with her about her wedding day, and found we had her wedding date available for booking. The rest, is as they say, is history.
The Wedding Day
The wedding day came up, and we drove the 4 hours it takes us, to get to this awesome ceremony location! We were kind of sad that the clouds and weather screamed rain, but we knew we would do the best we could, regardless of the weather conditions. As we were walking down to the lighthouse on the beach, we saw that they were doing the final touches for the ceremony itself. They were building the trellis for the ceremony, as well as placing the seats for the guests to use. We were also able to grab a few pictures of Lucas, the Groom, getting the final touches on his outfit as well!
Once everything and everyone was ready to go, the ceremony began. The lovely Bride, Melissa, walked down the aisle with her father, and right through the trellis. (The Lighthouse was behind the trellis, and she used the walkway from the parking lot, as her aisle.) You can just see how happy everyone is that Melissa and Lucas were tying the knot together. Their ceremony wasn’t very long, but included some very heartfelt moments. Like, at one point, both Lucas and Melissa made promises to their kids. And to seal those promises, they gifted them each a unique necklace. It was such a touching moment, and I’m not sure if anyone had a dry eye during this particular touching moment.
After their ceremony, it was time for some family formals. There weren’t a lot of these, but we still had fun getting to know some of the family that were supporting Melissa and Lucas on this special day. Everyone was in good spirits, and even random people from the public (visiting the Lighthouse), were happily watching this wedding take place.
After the family formals were finished, we took the Bridal Party out onto the beach and dunes to capture their formal (and not so formal) pictures together. The groomsmen seemed to have a blast, and the ladies, did their best to outshine the gentlemen.
Once the Bridal Party were finished with their photos, we took Lucas and Melissa aside for a few romantic portraits of them alone. Thankfully, the rain was still holding off just long enough for us to capture some truly beautiful moments between the two of them.
As we were starting to leave Little Sable Point Lighthouse’s beach, we felt the first few drops of rain. “Perfect timing!”, we thought, as we were all about to head over to the reception, which was to take place at The Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan. (They used the “Dance Hall” space, as well as the old town outside.) This reception location is very rustic looking, and we felt it matched their personalities perfectly.
Once we all arrived to the reception location at The Double JJ Resort, we quickly got some detail photos, and set up for the Grand Entrance. After the Grand Entrance took place, Lucas and Melissa took some time to sign their marriage license, as well as cut their cake! The rest of the night went by pretty typically. There were heartfelt speeches, fun dancing by all age groups, first dances, and some fun portraits taken outside in the old town area of this amazing rustic venue! Everyone, including ourselves, had a fantastic time with Lucas and Melissa on their very special day!
